I have been using contacts for many years.
They have improved in quality and wearability quite a bit.

Current contact lense quality is pretty good.

I am too cheap, so I push the limitations.

I take my contacts out every night, and store them in generic brand multipurpose storage/cleaning solution.

I only change them, when I loose them. So I have used the same pair for over a year. I have never had a problem.

I cant recommend my practices, but I would not sweat that 14 day thing. Be sure to take them out every night though.
To answer your question, you can use them one day, and store them for a week, and it only counts as one day of use.

Your eyes need to keep the corena oxygenated, and when you place a lense over it, it doesnt get enough oxygen. The newer lenses are very permeable to oxygen, and can be worn even at night ( but I dont recomend doing that every night).

The other thing is the risk of infection. If you keep lenses in for an extended period, it can lead to infections under the lense.
It is not worth the risk. But I think you really have to keep them in for quite a while to get into serious trouble.
Regular contact lenses are cheap, so change them. About $3 per lense. A small price to pay for such a miracle.
The office that sells the lenses, wants to sell more lenses, so they will recomend you follow the guidlines.

Just take them out every night and you can probably wear them for much, much longer than 14 days. If there was any chance of damaging your eyes, the manufacturer would not sell 14 day versions. Wearing the lense at night is the bigest risk factor for infection. By taking them out every night, you give your eyes a rest, and the storage solution kills bacteria and dissolves protein deposits.

I am near sighted, from your description, you are probably far sighted, or you would wear your contacts every day.
I only wear glasses to walk to bed, just before going to sleep...

Why dont you need to wear them? I have to wear contacts anytime I'm awake. I have been wearing contacts for over 15 years. You can wear them for as long as your eyes are comfortable. If you wear them longer then reccomended they may feel okay but do lose their ability to give your eyes the air they need and will get worse the older the contacts become. That can cause eye damage. Wearing them one day and putting them up in clean solution for a few days and then wearing them again for another week or two wont hurt. Just pay attention to how your eyes feel and how old the contacts are. If it would make you feel better about it call your eye doctor and ask lots of questions. That is why they are there.
