Cellulitis. i had this rash on my tummy and it kept spreading. so i used different creams and nothing. then i got chills so i went to the doctor and she said it was cellulitis.i was put on high powered antibiotics for 3 days until monday and go back. if its not much better she said i'm going to the hospital. i didn't realize how serious this could be and even fatal. two days on the antibiotics and still got the rash and chills. does this take a long time to improve and get resolved? anyone out there have any experience with cellulitis?

Cellulitis can be serious. I work with developmentally disabled adults, and they get it on a regular basis. Take a deep breath and relax, getting stressed about this won't help your immune system fight this. Go back as early as you can on Monday. Meanwhile, make yourself some hot tea, put on some jammies and read a good book. If you really really start feeling awful, have someone take you to the ER and let them know what's going on. But, if you just started the meds on Friday, then just realise it takes a while for theraputic levels of the drug to get into your body and take effect. Also, chills and malaise go with the fun of antibiotics. They'll make you feel crappy, too. Stay out of the sun, get some fluids and some rest, and let us know how it goes.

You did not say what had initially caused this but cellulitis can be caused by something organic such as an animal scratch or bite. Usually a broad range antibiotic will take care of it but this may take a couple of days. If it gets worse you may need to be put on an IV antibiotic. Yes it gets better but it takes some time.

It should improve in 2 days. If not, the organism could be resistant to the antibiotic you are taking. See the doctor again for a change of antibiotic.
