There are five acquaintances. One of them shot and killed one of the other five. Which man is the murderer? 1. Dan ran in the NY City marathon yesterday with one of the innocent men. 2. Mike considered being a farmer before he moved to the city. 3. Jeff is a top-notch computer consultant and wants to install Ben?s new computer next week. 4. The murderer had his leg amputated last month. 5. Ben met Jack for the first time six months ago. 6. Jack has been in seclusion since the crime. 7. Dan used to drink heavily. 8. Ben and Jeff built their last computers together. 9. The murderer is Jack's brother; they grew up together in Seattle.

Okay, so the 5 men are: Dan, Mike, Jeff, Ben, Jack.
We know Jack's not the murderer, because he can't be his own brother, and Jack's brother is the murderer. I would guess Dan is not the murderer, because the murderer's leg was amputated last month but Dan ran in the marathon yesterday, and a month is a really really short time to go through rehab for a prosthetic limb. Ben met Jack just 6 months ago, so he can't possibly be Jack's brother, as Jack and his bro grew up together.
That leaves us Mike and Jeff, right? Since Mike considered being a farmer before moving to "the city" (NY) but Jack's brother grew up in Seattle (pretty much a city), I'm going to rule him out and guess Jeff.
Anyone see any logic flaws?

I am going with Jeff.

Jack can't be his own brother -- so he's out.
Dan couldn't run the marathon on one leg (although I suppose a fake limb could solve that problem, but I just doin't wanna go down that road).
Ben just met Jack 6 months ago, so they can't be brothers (unless they are long lost -- again not a road I want to travel).
Mike considered being a farmer before moving to the city, so that implies he didn't grow up in the city.

That makes Jeff the murder.

As for who died, Jeff wants to install Ben's computer next week -- implying Ben is alive still. Jack is in seclusion and inorder to make that choice, he has to be alive. Jeff was the murder, so he's gotta be alive.

That leaves Mike and Dan as those who were murdered. I can't see any clear line here who would be the victim, but I am going to go with Mike since Dan just ran the marathon yesterday and I don't know what day the murder took place.

I go Mike is dead and Jeff did it.
