It will definitely change the way the alcohol affects you. I drink wine with wellbutrin & find that it affects memory and makes me feel different than when I did not take it. It's probably not a good idea.

Side effects may be more common shortly after you start treatment. The most common side effects with WELLBUTRIN XL are weight loss, loss of appetite, dry mouth, skin rash, sweating, ringing in the ears, shakiness, stomach pain, agitation, anxiety, dizziness, trouble sleeping, muscle pain, nausea, fast heartbeat, sore throat, and urinating more often

Don’t use it if you’ve had a seizure or eating disorder, or if you abruptly stop using alcohol or sedatives.

Don’t take with MAOIs, or medicines that contain bupropion.

When used with a nicotine patch or alone, there is a risk of increased blood pressure, sometimes severe. To reduce risk of serious side effects, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems. Other side effects may include weight loss, dry mouth, nausea, difficulty sleeping, dizziness, or sore throat.

Read the tip sheet that came with your med, or talk to your pharmacist. Some drugs, especially antidepressants, should not be mixed with alcohol. If you're absolutely going to drink, see if your pharmacist can recommend a safer drug for you, and then suggest that to your doctor. The way to find out what mixes well and what doesn't is NOT the hospital emergency department learning about liver transplant lists.

As the other answer seem to sugest it is pretty dangerous to drink with antidepressants. If in doubt, again ask you're Dr.

You should not. Alcohol is a depressant and does not interact well with this type of medication.

Come on, what a stupid azz question. First of all your doc told you NOT to drink alcohol with that med, and when you get the medication filled, they'll be a label that says Alcohol will interfere with this med. Why not just get wasted, and forget the medication for depression. duh........~~~

NO! Infact, it's best to abstain from all alcohol use while taking wellbutrinXL, or any other medication.
