First--there are lots of wackos out there, and in some situations I don't want to have a conversation with a person who seems like one. A second point--when kids are running around, crazy, or just on the brink of a nasty meltdown, most moms don't want to chat. They just want to do what they need to do and go home. And third--I don't know what sort of conversations you're trying to have, but if they are flirty then I can see women who are already married being turned off by that. Some married women don't want to feel like they are being picked up, so they may walk away from the conversation.

Some women are just shy and aren't good at meeting people at first. I am shy at first but warm up to people as I get to know them. They might act more reserved having children because they are worried about their children and their children being around strangers. As you know, many children are kidnapped and taken from their parents to never be seen again or they are even killed. It might just be the defensive part of being a mother. But some women are just flat out rude. I have met many of that type. If they don't want to talk to me, I just leave them alone and consider it to be their loss.

In what situation? Generally speaking, if I'm out and about running errands I'm not really looking to engage folks in lengthy chats. I've got TONS of chores to do and have to pick up the kids from school on time.
In a social situation, like at a party? Hmmm - I don't know.

So, what's the problem? If someone does not want to have a lengthy conversation with you, respect that and move on. Plenty other people out there who will be happy to talk your ear off all day long.

Maybe they feel that since having children they don't have very much to contribute to others or maybe they have been put down by someone else who hasn't had children and made to feel like they don't know anything as alls they do is look after children

they may be shy, or they may have been previously hurt so it's a defense mechanism
