The difference between enlisted and officer are obvius, but summing it up- Officer commands and has a degree of some sort, while enlisted listens, obeys, and doesnt usually have college degrees..But what is a Warrant Officer?

-Do you need a college degree?
-Would you 'enlist' as you would to be enlisted? Or how to become a Warrant Officer?
-Iv tried to find information and noticed they had their own pay and ranks..But is this straight from High School or from College?..And if its right from High School why would people go enlisted when they can go Warrant Officer?

(Links would be good, But Id rather have answers in your own writing if possible)

--Thanks

It depends on the service (and of course the nation that service belongs to).

In the US Army, you can be a Warrant Officer right out of high school to become a helicopter pilot. Other services have college requirements. The Air Force doesn't use Warrant Officers anymore, even though they could change that.

Warrant Officers are technicians primarily, as opposed to Commission Officers who have major command responsibilities. Non-commissioned Officers are the Sergeants who have risen through the enlisted ranks to a supervisory position.

You can find Warrant Officers in the Adjutant General Corps, the Medical Corps, the Military Police Corps, Aviation, and others.

First you are very mistaken about the difference between officers and enlisted. While it is true that officers MUST have a degree many many many enlisted also have degrees. The military offers a loan repayment program that encourages college grads to serve in order to have their debts re payed. They have to serve as enlisted soldiers, I have worked with enlisted personnel who were lawyers, nurses, PhD students, had masters degrees or a variety of bachelor degrees.
Officers are administrators while enlisted are worker bees. Warrant officers and people who have worked a number of years in their field and become experts. You do not have to have a degree to become a warrant but you do have to finish your degree after a certain period of time. The only field you can go to directly from High School and become a warrant is in aviation. All others are offered after you attain a certain rank (this differs for different fields but usually SSG or SFC)

WARRANT OFFICERS are Technical Experts in their chosen field. They operate, maintain adminsiter programs and train soldiers. Regular officers while they have a certain Military Occupational Specialty are expected to be able to perform in any unit with reasonable success. The Warrant Officer will do the same job for an entire career. The reason for the Warrant Officer staying in the same field for an entire career is to gain progressive levels of expertise. With the exception of pilots, a Warrant Officer Candidate must be at least an E-5 when they apply to become a candidate. It is the best rank in the Army.

you can do it; however you need to think long and hard about this. An officer does out-rank a warrant officer; however a warrant will only be flying the birds. It is the officer's that command the units, yet still fly. The warrants only fly the birds and are the maintenace chiefs. If you earn a commission and get branched Aviation, you may want to stay on the commissioned side of the fence.

In the Navy, warrant officers are usually people who were once enlisted, excelled in their rate (MOS or job), and applied to a board and were selected to be given the honor of more responsibility (and higher pay).
