Robin Hood in legend confronted the greed and oppression of the barons in England, probably in the 1200s as well as the local sheriff.Such men did in fact enrich themselves at the expense of the common people, who Robin was said to champion. He supposedly came home from the Crusades to find his father murdered and his lands confiscated by the crown. So he fought against the corruption of the feudal system and did it to help the poor, also hoping to regain his properties. He represented, as most heroes of legend do, good against evil.

Batman.
Confronts - crime.
Why - his parents were murdered.
Motivation - to prevent that (& other tragedies) happening to others.
For whom - the people of Gotham City.
Virtues - Selflessness, ...um... search for him online (or search your own memories of Batman stories) & think about it.
Tons of other comic-book heroes (& heroines too) out there, then there are Greek myths (eg Hercules/Heracles), European myths (eg Beowulf, Finn MacCool), Polynesian myths (eg Maui), myths from all over the world!
The internet is a wonderful research tool - think laterally, use a good search engine, have fun and good luck with your paper!

have you seen Shrek? He's a hero.
He confronts his own low self esteem and other's opinions of him. he also confronts society's obsession with looks. He does it because he falls in love with fiona, and his motivation is to live the life he knows he desires, with the person he loves. he also does it for her because she truly loves him as well. he represents the virtues of honest, kindness and integrity to name a few. Shrek's my hero.
