call your local crises centre, tell them what you have told us,they will come to your home almost immediately, i had a similar problem this summer with a family member, don't despair, she may just need a wake-up call...Good Luck.

You can't fix someone who will not fix themselves. That is a hard thing to accept when someone you live is dying from their illness.

I'd find a way to do an "intervention." Basically, this is a meeting where a professional (therapist, pastor, etc) has everyone in the meeting tell the sick person what the sickness is doing. In addition, the entire group says, "If things don't change I have no choice but to..." (fire you, divorce you, move out to grandparents, etc).

The goal is to have them go straight from that meeting to rehab.

If you're an adult then maybe you have a shot at getting such help for your mom. If you're not an adult, still living at home, the best thing you can do is to make arrangements to live elsewhere.

Above all, YOU... yes, YOU... have been touched by this disease, and you need treatment as well. Get it, either from a therapist or from Al-Anon.

If potential for loss of life really is imminent you can call the crises department at your local hospital and see if she can be brought in involuntarily. Inability to maitain ones own safety is grounds for involuntary psych hospitlization in most places.

You yourself cannot help her. Instead get her into a 12-step program, and find a sponsor.

Pray for them. There is nothing you can do if they do not want to help themselves. Pray and maybe they will turn around before it is too late.
