500 cal. a day isn't enough to sustain your body systems. Things will eventually start to shut down. Probably the kidneys first. I wouldn't recommend it.

Depends what kind of excerise you're doing, high impact or low impact?
Realistically, 500 calories is far too little to eat in one day, you may have enough stamina to do this for week, but not a month. And you're doing more harm than good, you need to eat to keep your metabolism going.
Your body will go into starvation mode, and hold onto everything you put into it. In a week you'll be eating everything you see in sight.
Minimum amount of caloric intake is 1200. That's minimum.
If you stick to 500 cal a day and an hour of excerise, you'll probably gain weight because you'll end up over eating at some point.
Whereas 1200 cal and an hour of excercise, i would say at least 10 pounds.
Idealy you want to lose 2lbs a week though. If you have a healthy lifestyle, you won't need to go on crash/fad diets. So learn to be healthy.

You will lose a LOT of 'weight'. But the key is: it WON'T be all fat.
if your daily calorie is too low, then what happens is your body goes into starvation mode. a fat storing enzyme called lipoprotein lipase is created in excess and what that does is it holds onto your fat, making it hard to lose it. then your metabolism drops, meaning you burn fat slower. then your body freaks out and turns the amino acids in your muscles into glucose, thus breaking them down.
so you end up losing lots of weight, but that weight is made up of 95% muscle and 5% fat... so you look like a 'fat-skinny person'... you look skinny, but have loose skin and flabbiness. this is because your sexy hard muscles now disappered and your body is still holding on to the fat and it's loose.
then once you lose all the weight (which is mostly muscle)... if eventually you start to eat normal again, since your metabolism is low and you got all that fat storing enyzme in your body... what happens is you gain weight back realllly easily. only now the weight you gain back is allllll fat (instead of the muscle + some fat that you originally lost).
also, exercising for long amounts of time is actually LESS EFFECTIVE than exercising for shorter amounts. The longer you exercise, the more a hormone called cortisol builds up in your body.. this hormone increases your body fat. long amounts of exercise are only good to build endurance, not to lose weight. if you want to lose weight UP THE INTENSITY of the workout, and SHORTEN the time (30 mins a day max). only if you can sprint for 30 mins straight without breaking a sweat, then you are more then welcomed to up the time.

eating 500 calories a day is a terrible way to lose weight, you're practically starving yourself so dont, just eat the recommended amounts and excercise more.

Since your body would think it was starving it would slow your metabolism down and you wouldn't lose as much as you'd think. Try more like 1100-1200 calories + exercise per day.

3500 calories per pound.
What kind of exercise? Running will make you lose 200 calories per mile. Walking will make you lose 50 calories per mile.

10-15 pounds easily. Unfortunately, you may not be as healthy as you should be because at 500 calories, your body is being robbed of many nutrients and food that it does need......

1lb is 3500 cal, so tt depends on what kind of exercise; more intense exercise will burn more calories, and therefore lose more weight.
