it's either a monastery or convent depending on what they do. If they just stay in the enclosure all the time and pray, then it is a monastery. if they go out into the community, it is called a convent.
And I haven't yet lived in one, but I will someday, Godwilling. I have visited a few for a few days though.

I dont know if the word 'nun' is unique to Catholicism and possibly also Buddhism, but I feel like if I say I'm a nun people will assume I'm Catholic; I guess it's kinda weird no one's ever heard of a Jewish nun (I havent anyway); it's supposed to be contrary to Jewish law but I cant with a clear conscience have kids in this world--maybe I will find out the hard way! My goal is to be celibate but the longer I am, the more ghosts and dreams there are, being in conflict with worldly survival

Depends on the religion. I think Nunnery is Catholic, but I could be wrong. Other religions call them different things, and sometimes the home of male and female monastics, respective, are called the same name. Buddhism, for example, has monasteries.
