You should do what you want but keep this in mind, if you aren't going to be there for them then don't you expect them to be there for you. There is nothing more solid in life than family relationships and if you keep blowing them off, someday it might come back to bite you in the butt when you need them.

I used to feel that way too! They drove me nuts being around all the time, dropping by or wanting me to come over all the time! But now........I wish I had that back! The only family I have left is my brother and he lives on the other side of the country, and my 2 sons, only one of which lives locally! It may be a pain in the butt, but you really should take advantage of the time you have with them, because they won't always be here! Besides what kind of life would you have without people who love you in it?

There's nothing wrong with that! I could go the rest of my life and not see certain members of my so-called family! Even the ones that I do get along with aren't really all that great! I have never liked going to those get togethers. We used to have Thanksgiving and Christmas at my mom and dads house and all my so-called cousins would come over. They never used to act up back then they wouldn't have gotton away with it if they did. So my answer is no, there's nothing wrong with that!!!! I don't even want to see mine on holidays let along any other time! I don't mind seeing my brothers and my dad but most of the rest of them make me sick!

Don't ever put your parents aside if you still have parents because they will not be around forever and you will regret it. I am a young female and both of my parents have passed away now and I miss them so much. I went to see them every single day and sometimes 2 times a day if I lived in the same town as they did. As far as the rest of my family, I could go the rest of my life without seeing any of them. I too was mainly forced into going to family gatherings and hated every second of it. Most of my family thinks they are better than everyone and I hate being around them. Now that both of my parents are gone, I don't have to go around any of my family anymore and it has been great. I don't miss any of that kind of stuff anymore period. I am glad to be free of them finally. Don't go if you don't want to go. But I know how it is. My parents always made me feel guilty also so I went most of the time. But I sure was glad when I didn't live in the same town and didn't have to be around the rest of my family. If you have family like mine, I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to be around them.

unless there is a real problem, go along with the every other month thing, keep it very short, say hi to them all, have a free meal..then say hey I have some where special to go and wink...they will all laugh, then say by and wave to them all...

let me tell you this... life goes by so so fast and before you know it..you will be like me..everyone gone and no more family visits...then what...you go visit strangers and talk about their past family stuff...
I can't see every weekend either but every other month, well just for an hour...I would say yes...bring a girls friend and make it a party and free food...

well good luck

man, if you dont care about your family that much, then i think you should know, that no one will ever be that important to you.

and thats a very bad thing for a human .
its not about liking it or not , you should feel the opligation to your family , because no matter what happens, TRUST ME ON THIS ,
your family will be the only ones who help you.
