Do they request donations? How do they get their funding?

We've worked with AZ Cats who do feral trap, spay/neuter and release. They are non-profit and work through donations. When we recently had two kittens fixed through them, they asked for a small donation to cover the procedure if we could afford it. It was tax deductable. They also have feeding stations for feral colonies and get some food donated by stores (broken bags).

I would imagine it comes through donations. San Francisco is a wealthy community and donations created the Maddie Adoption center about eight years ago which was a national "model" for what an adoption center should be - very animal and people friendly. Now they are building a new animal medical facility which will have all the latest in medical treatment for cats and dogs and staff specialist veterinarians in oncology, opthamology, surgery, etc. All feral cats in SF can be spayed or neutered at the clinic there for free and it is very low-cost for the residents of the city to have their cats and dogs "fixed".

I say that because it would depend on the community you are talking about. Trap and rescue people donate their time, money and energy in helping stray cats. So if they provide you with a service (such as providing a trap for you) you certainly should "repay" them in some way to support their efforts in your community.

If your live in a big city there might be an organization that have a trap, fix and release program. feral cats can survive on their own and these programs can help keep the population down and hopefully it will eventually eliminate the colony. As far as I know they don't have a fee, but will be very grateful for a donation.

Our shelter does not charge for the trapping and care of feral cats. We do take donations however. Since our shelter is classified as a NO KILL shelter, in our state we can get no government funding. We are strictly funded by donations from the public.
