Read the following story in today's Tennessean newspaper. Puppy mills are horrible places. If you buy a pup from the corner pet store, you are most likely buying puppy mill pups. All too often if you buy from a breeder online, the story may be the same. You do not know who you are buying from. This story tells what life is like for so many of these puppies and dogs. This is why they are often so sick when you buy them.

It is up to those of us who know the truth about these kind of places to try to enlighten others. Sadly so many people are still buying those cute pet store puppies and online puppies too.

I totally agree with you. The problem is that some people don't want to be enlightened. They go into a pet store and see all the cute puppies, and don't think about where the puppy came from or how many litters the mother had previously produced and will continue to produce, nor to they know about the filth and disease these poor dogs live with , many being confined to small cages where they urinate and defecate . The whole thing is very disturbing.

I'll get off my soapbox now. . It's a really sad, sad situation.

EDIT TO ADD:

I'm kind of sorry that I went back to reaqd the link. Although I'm happy all those poor puppies were rescued, the article brought me to tears.

The majority of people running puppy mills don't care about the animals to start with, they want the money and that is all. It's sad to say but in most cases that is the truth of the matter. I have taken in several animals in my lifetime because I can't stand to see them mistreated or hungry. They have all been my companions after a short time and I enjoy the dogs I have. I currently have 3 chihuahuas and I feel very protected...lol......Anyway, the problem of puppy mills is a battle....

I will agree that puppy mills are horrible places, but buying a pup online is safe if you do your homework and check out the breeder, along with calling her.Any responsible breeder online will gladly give you references along with her Vet's #.True there are many scams over the net,but not all breeders conduct their business in this manner,or their business would never survive.Like the old saying ,"if in doubt, check it out",and anyone that purchases a pet should be well informed and make the calls.Would also suggest checking with the Better Business Bureau in the owners State, they can inform you if a breeder has any record of complaints.
