We never should have gone but we broke it now we own it - just like General Powell told Bush before the war. We have to get the country back to at least the level that it was at when we invaded. But we should announce at once that we made a mistake invading the country and that our goal is to fix what we broke and go home.

Well...I'll answer based on an opinion I read online from a newspaper article a few months ago.
-We should stay because if we leave Iraq we'll create a vacuum effect. This occurs when an invading force leaves and the local inhabitants as well as bordering armies begin a power struggle to control the newly formed government in an attempt to rule over the land, economy and people. This leads to chaos and affects the workforce, educational opportunities and stability in the area for not just the immediate country, but the bordering countries.

Whether we like it or not the current situation in Iraq is our fault. We put Saddam in power and helped him create the most efficient Police state of modern times. Now that he's gone we have created a power vacuum similar to the one in Germany after WW1 when we removed the Kaiser. Our absence would provide an opening for another Ayatollah Khomeini, and that we can't afford. That Bush was an idiot to get us into this few dispute, but now that we're stuck to the Tar Baby there's not a whole lot we can do about it. Given the political situation one can only recall something once said by Winston Churchill, "Any proposal that is sound is unpopular, and any proposal that is popular is unsound." As much as I hate the idea, I say stay.

Um, stay. Why the hell would we leave right now? It would be wrong to leave before Iraq is stable enough to function without us, we took out their government because it was a threat to have a person with an ideology like that in power, he had missles in violation of the same treaty that forbid him from having WMDs, and we found plenty of those missles in the initial inspections. Why would we leave to subject Iraq to suffer similar, abusive administrations when we had spent the time to establish a good government?

I think we should leave because we should never have invaded in the first place and have only caused a terrible situation. Saddam was the excuse, now he's detained and Bush is using another excuse. Too many people have been injured and killed. Let the Iraqi's figure out dividing their country into three sections is the only way they can live together. They all ready know American intervention was not the answer and will never be.

pull out~ I'm a soldiers wife. my husband is in the national guard and is currently on deployment. NOT in Iraq thankGOD. Only yesterday did I believe we should be there. What changed my mind is....its not going to end. You can't change the minds of people that don't want to be changed. They HATE America. They are breed to hate. "We can fight the war over there or we can fight it over here" is what I used to say...whether here nor there we will still be fighting. I believe the only difference would be- is less casualties. We would have more control on our own soil. Now more than ever I believe we need to save "our" people....from ourselves! While we so call "help" the other countries to freedom we are hurting ourselves. We are drowning in poverty. We are overcome with immigration....We will be the death of us! Not the terrorists. Is that their plan? This month has been the deadliest of 2006. Maybe there has been positive changes over there. How would we know when the media fills our heads with untruths and distorted facts. The media has NO idea what the hell is going on over there. They really don't. If you believe what you hear on the news than your a sheep. SO my current belief is our soldiers are dying in vain. There is nothing more we can do. Get them back here to secure our borders, our people, our planes, our trains and fix this god damn country that is very rapidly deteriorating before our eyes because the government is full of men and woman who are trying to fill their own damn pockets with dirty money...and too concerned with out doing one another instead of just sticking to the damn issues!

Stay until the government and armed forces are capable of functioning and defending themselves. To pull out would be, in the long run, very damaging to the USA and the world.

First of all, going to Iraq was a dumb idea in the first place.
We should stay for now. If we pulled out now, those extremist wackos would claim victory and take over the weak government. I also think it would inspire more anti-U.S. sentiment and create more attacks in the future. If we stay, yes, more soldiers would die but it may just save more lives in the future than it destroys now. It kinda sounds cruel, but i think we should stay.

Stay.
If we pull out now, Iraq will become an Islamist hell-hole like Afghanistan was throughout the 90s. If we are capable of learning from our mistakes, we don't let that happen again. The Geneva Conventions require that we remain until Iraq can handle its own security matters.
Saddam started the mess - it must be cleaned up.

We need to leave Iraq. We are not accomplishing anything by staying there. Death toll keeps rising day by day. We cannot stop them from fighting, yes pulling out may make it worse for them, but not in the long run. They need to be responsible for themselves, we cannot help someone who doesn't want help.
