Aethism, contrary to popular belief, is not the absense of religion. It is, in actuality, the absence of a GOD. Since having a god and believing in spirits are completely seperate things.
So to answer your question, I believe many aethiests believe they have a soul even if they do not have a god.

I think that can vary from one atheist to the next. I have been labeled an atheist at times in my life, even though I'm not. I believe in God and in my soul, but I don't believe in religion. To some people, that is unacceptable and those people will "believe" that I am an atheist, but if you ask me, I will verify that I believe that I have a soul. So if you are trying to take a survey, that kind of thing could interfere with your findings.

Some believe in an "essence" or spirit, but I do not. We are far less important than you think. You and I are unimportant, inconsequential, and inappreciable. To think otherwise is to be pretentious.

That is correct.
They don't believe that man is any higher than animals.
They always try to emphasize that the only reason why we seem to be higher than animals is due to our opposed thumb and slightly larger brain to body-size ratio.
They are betting their eternity that the Bible is wrong.
