There is a very high correlation between sudden onset of severe pancreatitis in dogs and a history of having eaten pork products in the prior week. 'People' food and meats in general are the biggest cause of pancreatitis in dogs, with pork and steak scraps being the worst offenders. Pancreatitis often leads to several days in the hospital on IV fluids and antibiotics while we try to stop the pancreas from digesting itself in 'retaliation' for being asked to digest things it wasn't designed to have to ever deal with. Death rates vary with severity, but is common if aggressive, intensive treatment is not pursued in the severe cases.

Contracting trichinosis (a parasitic problem) from undercooked pork was once a huge concern, but not so much anymore.

Some dogs can be sensitive to pork (then again, there will always be some dog, somewhere, that is sensitive to something!).

I think that the basis for this though, is probably toxoplasmosis. (This is the disease that causes concern to pregnant women who have cats, as the disease is shed by cats and can infect the unborn child.) Toxo can cause very serious clinical disease in dogs, and one of the methods through which they can contract it is eating meat (including pork) that is contaminated by the part of the organism that causes infection. This method of infection is removed if the dog is a/ not fed meat, or b/ only fed cooked meat.

Just for general reference (not aimed at you specifically), you're probably best not to feed your dogs meat anyway, except as an occasional treat. Even though they're nowhere near as bad as cats in this respect, some will get a taste for it and refuse to eat anything else which can result in pretty serious health problems. This is especially so in a puppy, which really, really needs good quality food to grow and develop properly.

Sorry, I went on a little bit of a ramble there, but hopefully my answer's been of some use to you.

There is some truth to that. Many dogs seem to have a problem tolerating pork. Maybe that is why there is a shortage of pork based dog foods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If mine get pork, they get diarrhea!!! Even pig ears!!
