Pugs come in all different body types. Granted, your tall, leggy pug cannot be shown, but that does not mean he's not a perfectly healthy, happy pet. I don't know how much pugs are in you area, but around here a pet quality pug is anywhere for $300 to $600.
Just a note, a larger parents do not create a litter with MORE puppies. Having a larger dam (mother) drastically reduces your chances of requiring an emergency c-section, and possibly losing your dog. Your breeder isn't a bad breeder and you shouldn't ruin their name if he/she sold you a healthy dog. I'm sure they made no guarantees that the dog was show quality, especially not for $1,000. Period. And you can't file a complaint with the AKC, they won't have anything to do with this.

Subject: My tall Pug's breeder
Message: Actually, the breeder is no good but not because of the dog. Granted, I have no intention of ruining anybody but this breeder lied to my husband. She said my dog had papers and she would send them but when we called her the phone number had been disconnected. A quality breeder isn't usually a liar. Thanks for your answer. Take care.
You're right, this breeder is a liar. I didn't know this part of the story when you posted the original question. I was just basing my opinion on the fact that your pug is leggy. Do you have a signed contract stating your dog has AKC papers? If you do, you can take this to the AKC. There's not much they will do to her, but if you want to pursue it you can.
I couldn't post this to you privately, you haven't confirmed your e-mail address.

You may have paid $1000 for a pet quality Pug that was bred from 2 other poor pet quaality Pugs and does not conform to the breed standard at all. I cannot imagine paying $1000 for a Pug. Did it come from a pet store??? There is a chance that it is a mutt. Could have come from a Pug mixed with a Pug mix. Then you could get a pup that looks like a Pug for the most part. I know someone that has a dog whose mom was a Pug and the father was a PugXBoston Terrier mix. It does look like a poorly bred Pug.

Sounds like you bought a dog from a breeder who either doesn't know or care about the breed standard. People who make the decision to breed dogs are supposed to be responsible about it and follow the AKC regulations and guidelines for each particular breed. It sounds like this pug breeder is just in it for the money. I doubt that your dog is a mutt. It's probably just bad genes. The parents and/or grandparents were too tall for the breed and instead of not using that (or those) dog(s) for breeding purposes this breeder just doesn't care enough about the breed to not continue a "defective" gene. I don't think these dogs are defective, but it's a breeders responsibility to keep the dogs as true to their standard as possible. All you can do is love your new little pug and be sure to let anyone you know who is looking for a pug to not get one from that breeder. If your dog is AKC registered, you can submit a complaint with the AKC about that breeder. Sadly, no amount of money is a guarantee on the health/quality of a pet but it certainly seems that someone who thinks so highly of their pups to charge $1,000 would be someone who would know what they were doing!

It may be a poorly bred purebred Pug, or a pug mixed with another, taller breed. Personally I would not spend $1,000 on a dog.

Probably not a mutt, but maybe not show material. The truth is that even $1000k does not guarantee you a perfect dog.

maybe because it is a mix. usually, mixes have some inheritences just like human beings. maybe it is a cross of a slightly taller dog, but because it is a pug (so CUTE!) it might look akward. its a natural thing. = )
