I personally believe it is because more people are going farther in education than in the past, and because our public schools are (rightfully so) secular.

As for the "antireligious" stuff--I think that for those that have such feelings (not all of us do) it is because of the current rise in fundamentalism, which is scary to anyone not a fundy.

If only that were true. In fact, the numbers of religious and nonreligious people in North America are both rising, meaning that, at least in North America, there are as many people joining religion as those leaving it.

Did you see the movie, The Passion of the Christ? About 225 million people did in this country. Sounds like a lot of Christians to me.

The more you look at religion the more you realise that its complete bollox (english word for utter crap) religion is just a way of controlling people. I have no problem with the philosophy of the christian religion, ie the 10 commandments, a good guide for living a good life...the rest is pure dogma.
What man (or woman) has the right to tell us how or who or what we should worship. Of couse the christian religion has the greatest blasphemy of all in its book, claiming that we are made in his image. HAH. If man is the image of god, well what a pathetic and spineless god that would be.

You should get out more. Religion, unfortunately, is as strong as ever, however, more people are able to rise up in protest of organized religion without fearing being burned at the stake.

Just a guess but I would say because we are such a prosperous people we lack for nothing. When we become self sufficient many turn away from God.
