A broken leg has a deformity and extreme pain, severe bruising. A sprained leg has extreme pain, swelling, some bruising but no deformity. When I was an EMT, we treated sprains like broken bones in the field. You will need an x-ray to be sure. Go to the ER to make sure you haven't broken anything. I hope it's just a sprain. Good luck.

You'd have to see a doctor to know for sure. I'm an EMT and we call them "painful, swollen deformities." Even we don't diagnose things.
