I've been running cross country and track for several years now and I have exercise induced asthma. Usually I slowly improve my endurance over a period of several months, but this year that was not an option as I had a knee injury and was forced to train on a bicycle for several weeks in the middle of the season. My question is this: is there any way for me to force my lungs back into shape quickly, in time for the cross country championships? My asthma is not so bad that I would have to go to the hospital or anything...it just hinders me from running my best times. Also, I take singulair and albuterol.

Were you taking any Aspirin or something similar from the same group for your knee injury? Please stop that and you will start feeling better with the endurance. Continue to take the medicines that you are using. However, there is a medicine which prevents asthma - Chromolyn Sodium. It is to be taken when you are NORMAL and it would not have any effect once the asthma starts. If you are regular with the Chromolyn then you may not have the problem anymore. The best thing about exercise induced asthma is that in some cases it can be overcome by continued exercise, maybe at a slower pace for a short while and then it becomes OK suddenly. Try it. Best of luck.

Unforutuantly the only way that i know of to get
