I have been stretching for 2 years now, and Im a foot from the splits. Its soo sad. I want to be flexible to get my kicks up, and even fell better. I need some advice, on what kind of stretches to do and how often and long. Any sites or ur answers are greatly appreciated.

Target both your hip adductors (groin muscles) and hamstings (back of the legs) with several different stretches each. Seated reaches with feet together and with legs in a wide V are the best. In general, you don't want to start with cold muscles, so a warmup of cardio (jogging/biking/eliptical etc) is reccommended for at least 6 minutes previous. If you do a workout, stretching exercises are most effective at the end of your routine. Once you feel you are getting better, try a search on the internet for PNF stretching, which is higher intensity. There should be several websites to cover PNF. Too much to describe here. ;)

The maximum flexibility you reached as a kid will most likely determine the limit to your flexibility. As an adult we get stiffer and less mobile. If you have peaked with your stretching either live with it or your gonna have to stretch beyond comfort and into pain to tear and heal the tendons and ligaments farther than you are. No pain no gain when it comes to stretching.
I am 32 and can still do full straddles and splits because i did them when i was 6 and have not stopped.

Breathe in through the nose out through the nose. Inhale exhale. Breathe deep. Your body will slowly sink. I picked up quick but some people never pick up. Do leg stretches before attempting the splits to avoid injury.
