Those sound like mostly Indiana Jones inspired guesses. The Ethioians, like many others, merely claim to own it. They, like everyone else, won't let anyone else see it, so we really have no idea who owns it. But yes, it is said to contain the ten commandments (and in Indiana Jones, the souls of those who have looked upon it as well). What a great movie, though.

its a Wooden Chest, lined and covered in Gold.

as said, it contains the tablets of the 10 commandments, the fragments of the first set,
also I believe contains moses's staff... though I think some say its aaron's. whichever.

probably a couple other highly powerful, holy trinkets from before the kingdom of israel was conquered.

edit: oh yeah, its large enough to take at least 4 people to carry it on staves, so its not a small affair.

theres alot of debate over where it is. my personal opinion is that there are secret catacombs under the temple mount, from the time of David and Solomon, where the ark, and some other things are hidden, and have not been found. and will not be until around the messiah's coming.

besides, even if they had it, most people aughtn't be allowed anywhere near it. hell it wouldn't be safe for most people to get anywhere near it or see it directly....

Significance it is believed that Moses used it to communicate with God and it was the most sacred object of the Jews.
There are numerous legends, starting with the Bible and up to many modern speculations that it had some peculiar technical capabilities.
The ark was lost in ancient times but now there are claims that it was found in a church in Ethiopia.
