If a woman knowingly gets pregnant and can't afford the child, should she then get government assistance? Also, if a woman does not take birth control and gets pregnant, should she be able to get assistance?

once again, I AM JUST ASKING A GENERAL QUESTION. I'm NOT asking this for myself. I'm not pregnant, not trying to get pregnant, and my children's father and I WORK to provide for our children.

Unfortunatley for the sake of the child yes. Because its not the childs fault. I dont agree with it, but it happens. I live in an area of the US where more than half of the area is on welfare. I live on the border and Its terrible here. All the illegals coming across tohave their children here and getting financial assistance, etc. Its not fair for the rest of us who are working hard and having to pay out the money that goes to help them. Illegals or not. But its not fair for the child to be hungry and denied medical care either.

No. I don't think so but then again, I wouldn't want the innocent child to suffer. I'm sure if they started taking away babies from those who can't afford them and put them in foster care until the mom gets a job, the moms would all be out finding some sort of income ASAP!
I'm not talking about someone who gets injured or loses a job while pregnant, I'm just talking about those who chose not to work or make up excuses for not working and then get pregnant anyway. If a person has the time and energy to get herself knocked up, they should be able to find a keep a job and support that child.

This is a free country, and the government does not have the right to tell someone they can't have children just because they can't afford one. We all have the right to have kids, poor or not. I think the frustration among us is that we see so many people who choose not to work, and they just want a free ride. Some people work all day, and still make the bare minimum. They need financial assistance to get them through. I think as americans, we can afford to help those in need. It shouldn't be that only the wealthy can bear children. I do agree however, that those people who continue to have children, refuse to work, etc. should be cut off from ALL assistance. They have no desire to better their lives, and it frustrates me to financially support those kind of people with my hard earned money. Life isn't fair, is it.

Financial assistance programs were and are still designed as children's programs for the welfare of the child. And, regardless of the circumstances surrounding a child's conception or birth they still need to have housing, clothing, food and health care. A child should not be punished because of the parents circumstances. And, financial assistance programs give such small amounts of money to FAMILIES that those families continue to live in poverty even with the assistance. And, with "welfare" as it is now it is not an entitlement and most families do not easily receive financial assistance. Hence, it is not easy to get welfare and when one does get it it still doesn't meet all of a familiy's basic needs.

Absolutely not Tiffany. If you think the financial gain you receive from first having a child is big then the debts ahead of you will be even greater. Clothing, medical bills - especially if you are young (which you must be or you wouldnt be asking such a stupid question) because young children having children run the risk of unhealthy babies because they have not matured enough - not mentally but physically. Your life will not be your own for at least the next 18 years or so, you will have added responsibility, added washing, added bills to maintain, schooling to consider which all comes at a cost. And god help you if you had a daughter who thought the same as you. CHILDREN ARE NOT CHEAP TO RAISE - just ask your mother. Best of luck with your decision.

no...I think that if a woman gets pregnant she should be financially able to support that child. Government Assistance is there for the families who REALLY need help. Not for someone who willingly got pregnant and new that she can't afford it.
But thats just my opinion.

THIS is a grey area
how will the gov know that the woman get preg on purpose
if you look at it this way then no one will get financial support
which I wish some will not get
because of all the free clinic out their to help with birth control

If the woman is truly trying to provide for herself and child and is below the state guidelines, then yes, assistance would be available. But this system is taken advantage of all too often, so I would exhaust all measures before gaining assistance.

If you spread your leg's for sex your going to posiably get pregnant and you should be married so you can be taken care of and don't kill your child like selfish bitches in heat do! Also why should I or anyone else take care of your problem's? You or whoever your talking about is just like a piss poor driver who think's someone else should pay for his wrecked car because he or she had an accident because of there crappy driving skills. Oh yea by the way I see a woman that has an abortion as someone who is and will be irresponsiable in life, and there not worth having around because they make poor judgement call's. You know it's like this, I don't see you taking care of me or any of my problem's because I have to take care of myself so you do the same! Oh and by the way I do help out the poor and homeless and I do have a heart so don't go there! Just be responsable.

There's no real way to determine if the woman got pregnant intentionally or by accident( birth control failed or raped or something) so yes, they deserve assistance. Besides if they didn't get assistance neither would their babies--and that's who is the most important. The babies did nothing wrong and deserve a good life.
