If you wanted to become officer in the US Army and you took the path of enlistment first how would you go about it?

I know you could go to OCS, but when you enlist what if you had no colllege credits or very little credits? Then the Green to Gold comes in but it I beleive it says you need to have somewhere around like half of your credits because the programs only 2 years long..

So your youve been enlisted for 1-2 years and have your GI Bill, little or no college credits..How do you go about getting to officer (Going to college) while STAYING ON ACTIVE DUTY?

(PS-Im not enlisted or in this particular situation)

--Thanks

Go warrent officer, they are 'cooler'. Officers are merely princesses until they pass the third tier, and even then you still get a lot of princesses that make it into the higher ranks. I haven't met any warrent officers that were princesses on the same level as officers.

In the US Army, if your Company Commander knows that you are qualified for OCS, he/she can recommend you for OCS
without having any college credits, but it would help greatly if you were already enrolled in a 2 to 4 year college course while serving as a enlisted person ON ACTIVE DUTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are quite a few ways of doing it. You don't have to have half your credits for green to gold. One of the best ways is to go warrant officer. No college degree is needed. In fact the Army used to refer to the Army helicopter flight program as "High school to flight school." One other path is for those trying to become nurses(AMED Commisioning Program) where once you complete your prereqs for a school of nursing, the Army pays you just as if you were at your unit while you go to school full time. You coud enlist, and then take college classes online while you are enlisted through earmyu or the army's tuition assitance program. It is good for officers to have some enlisted time anyway, so the time it will take someone to do this will be well spent.

It's pretty tough to go to school while in the service but you could do dantes, Clep and Excelsior college courses. but you could become a registered nurse in about 2 years, and get to transfer to a get the 4 year degree comissioned as a 2LT
