To set up my question I will start with a quote:
The enemy of best is good
The biggest lie I have told myself is that I am all right, I am good enough, but in all reality I could strive for so much more. Compromise is the biggest lie.

That I can keep my emotions separate from the rest of my life.
I once told myself that all people were basically good and I was close to the truth, but I should have said "most people". It wasn't true at any rate, but I didn't really believe it when I said it. Once I tried to lie and say I didn't believe in God, but I never really believed that at all.

That allowing myself to be abused would make me a better, more "spiritual" person.
Don't worry, I've grown a backbone since then. I'm much safer now, too.
