To properly train the puppy you should take it outside every hour and let it do its thing even during the night every 2 hours until it is at least 16 weeks old. It will at least go #1 each time, back it up by saying outside to potty when taking it out and saying go potty while he is sniffing around outside. Stay with puppy while you are out and keep it on a leash at all times while training. This will ensure that the puppy will understand that outside is where he goes, also always praise puppy for doing good. Never yell at the dog always be the dominate one. Please don't keep the puppy in a cage all day it cruel. Smarter dogs learn in less time. If this is the case add an hour every other day until puppy is fully trained.

6 weeks should be the MOST it should take. If normal methods aren't working, then go to PetCo and buy some puppy training pads. They worked for my puppy better than when i trained any of my other dogs. Talk to an employee and they can direct you to the pads.
