This is in answer to Anthea H. 2 Pet 2:20-22 'For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ , they are again entangled in them and is overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would heve been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. But it happened to them according to the proverb: "A dog returns to its own vomit," and, "s sow, having washed wallowing in the mire." (NKJV) This passage deals with false teachers. It talks about what we do after we are saved. The words 'pollutions of the world' make it clear that it deals with our walk with God on earth. It speaks about we behaving sinfully on earth what good have our salvation done for us living our lives on earth. Having been saved should we act sinfully? If we are then we are poor witnesses. It is not that we become unsaved.

No one has so far explain how the passage by itself can be interpreted as applying to losing one's salvation.
What the passage implies is that after being saved if we continue sinning we are worse than unsaved sinners because we should know better. Those clergymen who fall away in sins, especially with homosexuallity i believe are never truly saved in the first place. The lack of fire for God and desire for holiness and purity are proof of this. I have not found any good answer yet.

I mean worse than unsaved sinners in behavior alone

Matt 7:22,23 Many (including the clergy) will say to Me, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in your Name?' And then I will declare to them, I NEVER knew you (ie not knowing Jesus as Savior); depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness (this includes homosexuality)!' This scripture applies even with more force to clergy who have no power even to heal a fly! A believer is worse than a sinner when he sins because he never avail himself of the power given by grace to him to conquer sin. Sin has no dominion over you for you are not under the law but under grace. Also because the believer does not reflect God's glory that is not expected of sinners (2 Cor 3:18)

20 Certainly if, after having escaped from the defilements of the world by an accurate knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they get involved again with these very things and are overcome, the final conditions have become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have accurately known the path of righteousness than after knowing it accurately to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 The saying of the true proverb has happened to them: “The dog has returned to its own vomit, and the sow that was bathed to rolling in the mire.” NWT

it basically means that it is worse for someone to know the truth and leave than for someone with no knowledge of the truth at all

Does 2 Peter 2;20-22 deal with losing our salvation? YES!

Peter’s words are surely appropriate: “Certainly if, after having escaped from the defilements of the world by an accurate knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they get involved again with these very things and are overcome, the final conditions have become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them not to have accurately known the path of righteousness than after knowing it accurately to turn away from the commandment delivered to them. The saying of the true proverb has happened to them: ‘The dog has returned to its own vomit, and the sow that was bathed to rolling in the mire.’

The apostle Peter compared Christians who revert to their former course of life to a sow that returns to its wallow after having been washed. However, it is evident that, as relates to the pig, this illustration is not intended to apply beyond the surface appearance of things. Actually, the pig, under natural conditions, is no dirtier than other animals, although it indulges in wallowing in the mud from time to time in order to cool off in the heat of the summer and to remove external parasites from its hide.

Note the situation in Britain, once a stronghold of Protestantism. In November 1987, when Britain’s prime minister was calling on the clergy to provide moral leadership, the rector of an Anglican church was saying: “Homosexuals have got as much right to sexual expression as everybody else; we should look for the good in it and encourage fidelity [among homosexuals].” A London newspaper reported: “The homosexual practices became so rampant in one Anglican theological college that students from another college had to be forbidden by staff to visit it.” One study calculated that “in one London district, the number of clergy with homosexual leanings may be more than half the total.” And at a church synod, 95 percent of the Church of England clergy supported a motion that labeled fornication and adultery as sins, but not homosexual genital acts; such homosexual acts were said merely to fall short of the ideal. Commenting on all of this, one news writer suggested that the Church of England might well be renamed Sodom and Gomorrah. Another London newspaper declared: “The British people are appalled as they contemplate the results of a generation of permissiveness.”

How well the apostate clergy over the years fit the apostle Peter’s words: “The saying of the true proverb has happened to them: ‘The dog has returned to its own vomit, and the sow that was bathed to rolling in the mire’”

The false doctrine of once saved always saved is impossible to defend with scripture.

There are numerous ways one can lose their salvation.

Only those who maintain their faith and continue to repent right up until the end have any real hope of salvation.

All the rest are merely kidding themselves.
