instead of paying to take a class, I think you'd learn a lot more by volunteering with a few organizations and learning hands-on. Volunteer with a hospital, a charity, a walk-a-thon...be willing to do whatever they need and expose yourself to every aspect of the operation. Event planners do publicity, graphics, get vendors, order catering, arrange a million details that you really have to learn on the job. If you had a few big events you were involved with on your resume, that would get you further than any online course. Plus, by volunteering, you will make industry contacts and maybe someone has a job for you. You never know.
