I use a laser pointer when speaking to a large audience to indicate on a display or a presentation graphic something in particular - such as identifying on a line drawing of a building, where the exits are in case of an emergency.
I use a laser pointer at home with the cats. They love to chase it. I run it along the floor and up the walls and they try to climb the walls. It is hilarious.
Be careful with laser pointers and never aim at a face.
