How could mercy, charity, education, and self control - mitigate problems like starvation, pollution, crime and disease locally and internationally?

Can you recognize how this is actually and spiritual/religious question? For one, these world problems make it difficult for people to take more time and trouble for their spiritual practices.

I agree with you, all these things in action can make the world a better place. If we would treat all like we would want to be treated. I have a life mission statement, (vision) to see the lost and hurting in this world find everything they are desiring. I want to do this by putting my words into action. I am currently attending school so that I can become a nurse. When I am finished I have plans to help those all over the world by doing medical missions. If we can educate people on the simple things such as washing their hands properly, sanitation, we could erradicate many diseases. If we can help people understand that self control is the key ingrediant to getting the population down so there would be less people to feed and more food to go around. If we could teach people to have more self control there would be less crime, less rapes, less murders, less molestation. But we have to start in our own homes. Making sure our own families are on the right path, making sure our children are not out on the streets at night having sex and making trouble. Then we can move on to our communities and then our federal government, then the world. I think this world has so much potential. Unfortunatly there probably won't ever be the change that so many desperately want. Because we just can't teach self control, peopel have to grasp it for themseves, and understand that they just can't do whatever they want to.
I could write a book, on this subject, maybe I will some day, but for now I will stop. Thanks for the wonderful topic to ponder and maybe someday for our children's sake our world can be a better place.

This could be considered a spiritual question and or a moral one. Mercy is caring and giving, Charity is giving,we should all give and help all of these causes.

These problems facing humanity can be solved only by humanity. Faith, prayer, meditation, etc cannot solve these problems, only action.

What hope do we have of spiritual fulfillment or enlightenment when basic needs of survival are not being met?
