Because beauty, passion, energy, and innocence are abundant in youth, and deservingly should go to the aged. Kids waste there time being stupid and by the time they realize it, they're old.

not all youth is wasted on the young - sometimes it may have been wasted on the old too .....
to be young is to be bright and hopeful and optimistic and wide-eyed and wondrous at everything around them - to be interested in everything - to be curious about everything - to be adventurous and experimental without fear or hangups .....
if we older ones have learnt from our experiences of our youth - we can do much to help our young not only enjoy their youth but appreciate it in a way that took us a long time to learn ...... then the young can enjoy their youth and we older/ones can participate in that enjoyment .....
envy, resentment, covertness are hard friends to have ........

Youth tend to take everything for granted.
With age, you get to appreciate the finer things in life.
To age youthfully is the idea.
