Most nuns and sisters wear habits of some sort. A habit is simply the "uniform" of a given community. I believe you are referring to what is called a traditional habit with a veil. Some siters and most nuns still wear the traditional habit. Most sisters wear jumpers or skirt and blouse in a specific color that identifies their community.

I gather we are talking about the traditional 'heavy habit', the 'penguin suit'.

Quite a few still maintain the old habits, while others have returned to them after experiementing with more modern dress.

The exact nature of the habit is pretty much up to the order itself, with the Vatican supplying only very general guidelines.

True nuns yes, some sisters too. There is a difference. Nuns are enclosed and sisters are orders that have more worldly contact.
