I've never owned a min-pin before and feel like a terrible mom. He constantly cries for attention. He was just separated from his bros and sisters yesterday. What do I do? Hold him or leave him? Crate him or let him run around.

He is upset.

Now make up a safe secure bed for him If you don't have a crate (or if it is a big crate that will hold a smaller low box-bed inside, that give him a clean bed even if he pees in there), use a box that he can''t get out of. Nice soft snuggly blankets. Wrap a hot water bottle in a towel and put it on one end - make sure he has the choice of cuddling on it or moving away. Give him an alarm clock that goes tick-tick and wrap it in a blanket (don't want him chewing on it and tuck in near the water bottle. This all mimics the warmth of his litter mates and the sounds of their heartbeats

Now before putting him down for his naps, play with him - down on your knees, moving a tiny toy about, clapping hands and getting him to wallow on you. Let him get tired out. When one this age gets tired, they will drop where they are to go to sleep.

You can put him in his bed or let him sleep on your lap - be warned, the first thing he will do when he wakes is pee

Letting him run about to explore is good - just be there as puppies can pee faster than you can blink so you can get him to his newspapers

Give him attention and be calm and reassuring (he will know if you are tense or panicky or worried.)

Talk to him while playing. Talk to him if he cries - at least for the first few days. Lightly stroke him if he is sleeping on your lap.

Tired puppy = happy owner

He'll do fine.

During this time in his life he will form the basics of his doggy brain. It sounds stupid but it's true. I have an English Pointer and when he was very young he knocked into the food/water bowls and was scared to eat for days. I eventually hand fed him until he got over it and now whenever he gets sick he will come to me. Well, he's 2 and 70lbs so its a long night of sitting on the floor with a bowl full of kibble. He needs to learn on his own that he will be okay. Don't coddle him too much but be sure to give him the love he deserves. Hope this helps.

Get a squecky toy and start playing with him once he gets some what into the toy just let him play a lone. That should help him not so attached to you to the point where he will have seperation enxiety. Also it sometimes just ignore that way he wont think that all he has to do is whine to get your attention. I didnt do that with mine and he just whines when he wants my attention and his a year old.

is he whining when he's in his crate? is that what you mean? we kinda need more info...if you need to leave him alone (if you're leaving the house), then leave him in his crate and let him whine. if he's whining like he wants more food than what you have given him or something, then let him whine. you're only being a bad mom if you give into his whinings for unnecessary reasons. if you give a human child everything he/she wants, then they will become spoiled and unruly and won't ever listen to you. it is the exact same with dogs. if he's whining because he WANTS something, don't give in. if he's whining because he NEEDS something, then you can give it to him. if you allow yourself to feel sorry for him being separated from his dog family, then you are opening a window of weakness that your dog will eventually fill instead of you. this is what happened with our first dog (a toy poodle), and he became very mean and bit us a lot, so don't let this happen to you!!! one of our big mistakes was not taking him to obedience classes or a trainer so that we could learn not to do this. i would suggest, then, that you take your dog to a trainer and the trainer can help you learn how to have a proper loving relationship with your dog!

Awwwwwww give him loads of cuddly toys to snuggle up to and a good idea is when he is in his basket at night, put some toys in with him and place a small clock in there as well, the ticking will remind him of his mothers heartbeat. Good Luck

He is just an infant. You don't want him independant at this time, but you want him to feel safe and loved..Stroke your hand lightly over his eyes..even if he acts like he doesn't want you to..this is an actions just lke mom washing his face, and it will be comforting..

He just needs time to adjust. Play with him. He is just in a whole new world. It'll take time.
