Ear wax draps dirt and dust so it doesnt travel further into the ear canal causing infection or damage. That's why they say not to clean your ears everyday.

ear wax does not do any thing it is formed by dust and other irritants getting in your ear and it builds up on you ear hairs and your body creates a substance to grab it and then it is your turn to get it out of your ear.
