When my son hurts himself I feel scared and worried about what pain he may be feeling. I do comfort him but I don't make that big of a deal out of it. If he is hurt I will hug him and kiss him and ask him if he is ok and usually once I kiss it he is ok. Now there was a time that my little brother was trying to get my son to come downstairs and some how one leaned on the other and they ended up rolling down the stairs together.......there I panicked and started crying because I didn't know, he could have snapped his neck coming down the steps or something and then there was one time that he was chasing my moms dog and he tripped and he went head first into her coffee table. I freaked out, sorry but that is his head and a very vital part of his little body, people die all the time from head injuries and he barely just turned 2......so i guess it just depends on the injury.

Since I have boys and don't want them growing to be a sissy, I tell them I am sorry they got hurt and that they will be fine. While doing that I check them out, clean them up and add bandages where needed. For my one girl, she is to little to have gotten hurt yet but will likely follow the same routine to try and keep her from crying about everything. She has big brothers, they are going to beat her up.

Usually just tell them to "shake it off" if they stubbed their toe or hit their head or something like that. If they're bleeding then I make a little bit of a bigger deal out of it, but never enough to scare them or anything.

Children who's parents cuddle and make a big deal out of the smallest things tend to over react when they get the smallest bruise or bump. They literally scream bloody murder even though all they did was hit their head on something.

You comfort them, of course!! The world is a tough place, especially for little ones. Hurts are everywhere. Little babies and young children need to know that mom or dad are there to hug and kiss and console them when they need them. The will grow into well-adjusted adults who are open to new experiences and new people if they know that their caretakers can be trusted to be there for them.

if my 22 month old son has hurt himself badly he will tell me where it hurts and ask me to kiss it better, when ive kissed it better he goes to play again!

if he trips but doesnt hurt himself he thinks wether to cry or not, but i start laughing at him before he gets the chance which then makes him laugh so he forgets about crying!!

it sound cruel to laugh when your child has a minor bump but this works, he isnt over dramatic!!

give it a try it will work 100% !!

good luck!

Depending on how bad he is hurt I will just kiss his boo-boo if he hits his head, hand, etc. I don't over-coddle because my sister and my mom did this with my niece and she is now 9 and VERY over-dramatic when she stubs her toe. Cries and screams like she broke her leg. I will cuddle my son for a few minutes and he is fine.
