Maybe he just trusts you, so he has no reason to be jealous. It's hard to believe, but guys can actually care about their woman without being controlling. And speaking as a guy that can't dance, maybe he's just worried about embarrassing himself (and you) at the ball, see if he'd be up for a little coaching from you, then he can be Prince Charming to your Cinderella :)

There's a big difference between jealous & protective. You should flat out ask him if your relationship is important... or maybe, just how important it IS to him.
If he hesitates or shrugs & can't give you a good answer, that may be your signal to cut yer losses & run. But take it from me... an overly protective or jealous partner can be a real drain on you & your relationship. Maybe he IS just very secure w/ how you 2 stand, and he has no clue of what YOU want. You should tell him exactly what u want... the last thing guys can do is read females' minds!! Best wishes 2 you both! :)

Some guys are really not into formal occasions.. with the dressing up and stuff.... If he really doesn't want to go, find a good friend to be your escort...Making him jealous is very immature. he does care, he is with you, he has other interests maybe.
Ask him once more and he he still refuses, then ask him to find you a date.
It might be interesting.....
Don't play games, you might get burnt....

you got a point there. but who knows? he's probably worried in a way you might not even expect it. people have their own way to express it but if he really LOVES you he'll be watching you in a far distance where you almost feel like he's not there.
somehow i can tell cause I'm not a jealous type of boyfriend towards my girl and not too protective even just in a way i let her know that i exist in her world and it's up to her to make that choice if she still loves me or not. i call it freedom for my girl, it's up to her if she comes home or not.
