The Whitetail Deer is found throughout most of North America except for the extreme north, California, and the Great Basin Desert region of the western United States. However the Whitetail deer is a familiar animal of the Eastern Deciduous Forest.
The whitetail deer or Virginia deer is native to the eastern United States. Its range, however, extends over most of the United States, southern Canada, Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. The whitetail deer is known for its characteristic long tail, which is white underneath. The whitetail deer is one of the largest American deer. The buck, on average, reaches about 6 feet in length and 3 to 4 feet in height at the shoulders. It weighs from 100 to 300 pounds or more. In America today, the whitetail deer is one of the most popular big-game animals hunted. Belonging to the family Cervidae, it is classified as Odocoileus virginianus. ****

**** now I figure that the deer start petering out in the north because of the lack of browse at or around the arctic circle. You say tolerance, I say that the land just isnt made for that species. I have seen that herds 'yard up' in the various snow belts because they can't move thru the deep snow. If they run out of forage during a hard year, the whole herd dies.... they just aren't made for all situations. The above mentions the great desert basin.. same thing there! California because they cant eat republicans (too greasy for their digestive tract). Or maybe they cant make it over the mountains.. I don't know, but you have to realize its all about food.

White tailed deer are notoriously intolerant. They will take offence at the slightest thing, and they really bear a grudge.
