Oh that is a tough one. I would say the gift belongs to the person who made the purchase. But I also think it was wrong of that person to sign her friends name like that.
I personally would hand the gift over if it was going to ruin a friend ship. Or maybe it is something they can share or split. But no gift is worth causing problems between friends like this. Both of them need to realize that and get over it.

give the card to the one who lent the card out in the first place. The friend who needed it, needed it so it was given to her, but in the signing of the name....she should have declined it if she couldn't sign for it. I ask a friend who is in law school. She says that it is all illegal and if you friend who lent the card shows that SHE WAS DOING SO IN GOOD,FAITH, THAT IT WAS GOING TO HELP HER FRIEND, BUY FOOD. Then she can have a sincerity vote for her. But the friend that used the card, is not legally able to do so, one she committed forgery, by signing a another persons name, two she used false identity to receive a prize that has value . She is the guilty one, and should return the gift to the friend , or the store....

It would be the better part of courtesy for the borrower to 'assume' that it was the lenders gift, as the card belonged to someone else, the gift did as well. If the person who owns the card says "keep it" then they may, but otherwise the thing to do is return it.

The rightful thing would be to share the gift equally with your friend. Seeming as how the prize wouldn't have been able to be claimed with the exception of your friend signing-rightfully it is hers, if she wanted it sounds like she could legally win the claim under the reason that her name was forged in order to claim the prize. Forgery is a federal offense and you wouldn't want to become involved in that-people will sue over anything now-a-days so in the future you should take that into consideration especially when a prize that isn't rightfully yours is involved.
Ask yourself are you willing to risk your friendship over the prize?

both of them. but i would have given the gift to my friend who loaned me the card if i needed the discount card (as a thank you!) but if i was the friend who had the discount card, i'd have let my friend who used it have it... why? cause although it sounds a bit bizarre, i value my friends more than some material object which can be bought for a small amount of money some or other time...is that too bizarre?

It belongs to the person to whom the discount card belonged.

I'd just let the friend who won have it. They won it fair and square. No sense fighting over some stupid piece of crap.

If I won the prize, I would offer it to the other person. (Hopefully she would decline it.)
