think relaxing thoughts while you're lying there in bed. focus on something constant - like your breathing or your heartbeat or the ticking of your clock. also, it helps me to pray before i go to sleep b/c that helps relax me and i can focus my thoughts.

If you have a tape recorder that doesn't make a loud noise when the tape comes to an end, put a Chuck Smith tape in and listen to it while you're laying in bed. His deep resonant voice will send you to snoozeville, guaranteed.

That doesn't work for me because my tape player makes a loud "clunk" when it turns off and it wakes me up.

Second best is Harry Potter #1. It's a very dark movie without many ultra-loud scenes. Just having the dialogue barely audible takes my mind off my thoughts and I go to sleep before he gets to Hogwarts every night.

The player runs to the end, rewinds the movie, ejects it and turns off. Our player is in the TV and the TV turns off too.

My problem is staying asleep. I usually wake up after 4 hours sack time. To prevent this, I enjoy a "Viactiv" chewable calcium chocolate candy before bedtime. Calcium is known for making people a little drowsy. The down side of this is I'm not as alert as I could be the next morning, but the trade-off is worth it for me.

Hope this helps.
