It is called heartburn because the symptom is a burning / acidic sensation in the chest or the back of the throat. However, it is unrelated to the heart and is actually caused by excess stomach acid rising up the oesophagus, usually as a reaction to unusually rapid food intake, or exess consumption of fizzy/spicy foods. Can also be triggered by vigorous exercise soon after a meal.

Heartburn is easily treated with 'over the counter' antacids, though if you experience it frequently you should consult a doctor.

Heartburn feels like a hot, acidic sensation at the back of the throat which can be quite uncomfortable. It is caused by an excess of stomach acid rising up to the affected area. Usually relieved by antacids.
