Repentence is a change of mind that leads to a decision to change one's behavior.

It's not enough to simply say we're sorry for our sins. If we truly expect forgiveness, we must also have at least a firm intention and a real possibility of repentance.

The reason God couldn't simply forgive Adam's sin, even though Adam was most certainly sorry for committing it, was because Satan's evil dominion eliminated any chance for true repentance on Adam's part.

Jesus' death on the cross destroyed Satan's dominion, and man was then free to repent.

God's forgiveness followed immediately.

To repent is to stop doing a sin, turn away from it, and go in the other direction and to say sorry for doing it. It is to agree with God that what you have done (or have not done) is wrong and a sin and ask God to forgive it, then to do the opposite.

It means "to turn away from", as in, to turn away from your sin, turn your back on it, not do it anymore. Sin is doing things the Bible says is wrong. Furhtetr reading tells you you not only need to repent, and turn away from your sin, but you need to turn to Jesus, by accepting Him as your personal Lord and Savior, which means, believing He is the Son of God and the only way to heaven and that He died on the cross and was ressurected. It is only by allowing Him into your life that you will be successful at turning from your sin.

True repentance is recognising that you have done something wrong. If it is towards another you need to ask their forgiveness and try to make recompense for
your wrong-doing. You also need to ask God for forgiveness and promise that you will not repeat the sin again and endeavour to do so.

You know when you are forgive because you then feel at peace with yourself and eveyone again.

Hope this helps.

Ezekial 14:6 says to "repent and turn away from the idols...and abominations". When the flood came the ones who were not in the ark "repented" real fast but they had already made their choices for life and their fate was sealed. Repenting does not just mean to be sorry for something you did or be sorry that you were caught....but to be sorry enough to "turn away" from the evil and stop doing it.

Repentance is to be truly sorry for your sins and ask forgiveness. It also means you must have a firm purpose of amendment. That is that you also have a firm desire not to commit that sin again. Sometimes our weak nature causes us to sin again anyway, but when we are truly repentant, we promise to avoid temptation and to try not to commit the sin again.

Change. Give up the old ways for something higher and better. Let go of what you're hanging onto and decide there is something more worthwhile coming up. Stop trying to do everything your own way, sit back, listen, and then move forward with a clean heart and clear mind. See if you can figure out God's will for you, listen, and then do it.

To have a change of heart. To feel sorrow for sin and turn away from it. To rely on the mercy and merits of Jesus Christ to sanctify us from sin. All unrighteousness is sin. So basically to repent we need to turn away from all unrighteousness and do good, keeping the commandments of Christ until the end.

Maybe a modern word would be to make amends.
It's only when I got out of the churchey world that I began to understand that we do what we do because we think it is the best at the time. When I got that, guilt dropped away and there is only the joyful task left of rebuilding the friendships.
