John 17:3 This means everlasting life their taking in knowledge of the only true God and the one whom you sent forth Jesus Christ.
So wouldn't the reverse be true? If you didn't get to know God would you have eternal life?

Of course we can know God!
For the second question, the Jesus also says that "whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." I believe that this kind of believing is coming to know God, so therefore only through knowing God/ believing in God and Jesus' sacrifice can you have eternal life with Him.
(When you say "reverse" do you mean "If you didn't know God then you won't have eternal life?"?)
Peace

The bible says that if you accept Jesus as your Lord and savior, that you will be saved. And also that no one can come to the father unless by Jesus. So yes you can have eternal life without getting to know God. But here is a question for you.

If you accept Jesus as your savior then God becomes your Father, would you want to have a Father and not get to know him?

No if you do not accept God you will have eternal hell

1After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Sure you can get to know God. Seek Him and you will find Him. Read your Bible and pray. You can talk to Him in your thoughts all the time. You don't have to be on your knees to communicate. The more you find out about Him and talk to Him the more He will communicate with you too. As long as you have God in your life you will never, ever be alone.

I don't think we will ever truely know all there is to know about god as he is so big and amazing. He is undiscribable and bigger than our minds can ever imagine. But we can know bits of him and we can have a relationship with him. He wants to be your father in heaven, he wants you to talk to him, and listen to what he is telling you to do.

God loves you more than you can ever imagine.
