I asked a question earlier today which a few Muslims answered. Based on the responses I received, it appears that while some Muslims believe Islam is the one and only true religion, other Muslims do not. Why the difference? I imagine some of them might be confused, so I am asking this question specifically to all Muslims in hopes to receive a more unified answer:

Does Islam claim to be the only true religion?

... and, if it is, how does one come to know that it is true?

Feras: I am not trying to attack nor provide an opportunity for others to attack Muslims. Yes, I am a Christian. But I am trying to gain knowledge about Islam from Muslims. I directed my question to Muslims only, but unfortunately others have taken the opportunity to bash Islam. This was not my intention.

Feras: apology accepted. I know what it's like to be hated by other people (and believe it or not, most of the people who hate me for my religion are other Christians). It is not my desire to spread hate, only understanding.

No. Islam does not claim to be the only true religion. All divine religions are true; Judaism Christianity and Islam. Let's put away the points of disagreement concerning alteration and so but they are true religions. How can Moses and Jesus be true prophets we respect without their messeges being true religion?

We are not muslims because it is better than Judaism and Christianity or because they are bad or not true. It is a matter of time. There was a time when there was no religion. Judaism came and people became Jews. Then time for Judaism was over when Christianity came and people became Christians. This was right till Islam came and people converted to Islam.

This is what it is about.

With all respect to everyone.

Peace.

I can see where you are going with this question, I mean a guy like you who knows so much about Christianity , based on your advices you give to other Christians, I read your answers. I think it will be wasting time to tell you all about it, cause no matter what I tell you, you are just going to giving an opportunity to all the hatters to attack the Muslim religion. and this is exactly what you are doing .

Brian: I apologies if I offend you, I just being getting attack by people who only hate Islam by it's name with out knowing the Real meaning of Islam.

I have to agree with daliaadel, what she stayed about Islam is right.

I'm a Muslim, and as a Muslim, I believe God will judge everyone accordingly.

However, He has sent down a guide for mankind to follow, a sort of "straight" path. This guide, or message was revealed to all the
Prophets of God, who were commissioned to spread the word, and warn mankind of the dangers of disbelieve, and the divine plan for this world and the afterlife.

Now, the difference in the eyes of God between you and I is in how much each of us believes in Him and what we do to prove our submission and loyalty to Him, and that's what faith is. That's really all that matters to God.

People forget that Islam is not a noun, it's not really supposed to be used to describe one religion, even though it mistakenly is. It's an action that any human being can perform. A Muslim is not a noun. It's also an action, and anyone can be labeled a Muslim, if they believe in God and submit to His will.

I am a Muslim and very proud of it.
If I say this is the only true religion, then how about Moses and Jesus? I respect them very much.
I am happy with my religion, never step on others toes. I hope the rest wont step on mine.
Let us act during our life, we have the freedom to do so. When we die, God will reward us or punish us for our deeds.

the diffrence is that the koran teaches many conflicting messages.

Verily, they who believe (Muslims) and they who follow the Jewish religion, and the Christians, and the Sabeites,—whoever of these believeth in God and the last day, and doeth that which is right, shall have their reward with their Lord: fear shall not come upon them, neither shall they be grieved.” (Sura 2:59 )

most religions acceptable by god.

“Whoso desireth any other religion than Islam, that religion shall never be accepted from him, and in the next world he shall be among the lost.” “Infidels now are they who say, ‘God is the Messiah, Son of Mary!’ .*.*. Whoever shall join other gods with God, God shall forbid him the Garden, and his abode shall be the Fire. They surely are Infidels who say ‘God is the third of three,’ for there is no God but one God.” (Sura 3:79; 5:76, 77)

only islam the right religion.

you dicide.

Look what God said about the issue: "Say: we believe in God and in what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il: Isaac, Jacob and The Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus and the Prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another, among them, and to God do we bow our will (in Islam)." (Qur'an, Al-Imran 3:84)

I answered your other question. Here I will try to answer why muslims consider Islam as true ?

Like I said in my other answers, Muslims believe all prophets from Adam to Prophet Muhammed to be Muslims literally( that is those who submitted to God). When ever God appoints a prophet, he also provide some clear evidence to convince others that he is indeed prophet of God, for example for Moses he was given a wand which when dropped would become a snake and for Jesus, the ability to give life to a dead person in certain occasions. These miracles were evident only during the life time of Prophet. But for prophet Mohammed, who muslims consider to be the last prophet, he was given a miracle that will last till end of world. That miracle is the Holy Quran. It is unmatched in its style and eloquence in Arabic language. Quran challanges to those who dis believe in to produce a chapter similar to it

"And if you are in doubt as to that which We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a chapter like it and call on your witnesses besides Allah if you are truthful" Quran 2:23.

Even the critics of Islam used to admire the beauty of Quran. For example I will give below few words of George Sale, a christian missinary and critic, who has studied Arabic and translated Quran to English.

"I will mention but one instance out of several, to show that this book was really admired for the beauty of its composure by those who must be allowed to have been competent judges. A poem of Labîd Ebn Rabîa, one of the greatest wits in Arabia in Mohammed’s time, being fixed up on the gate of the temple of Mecca, an honour allowed to none but the most esteemed performances, none of the other poets durst offer anything of their own in competition with it. But the second chapter of the Korân being fixed up by it soon after, Labîd himself (then an idolater) on reading the first verses only, was struck with admiration, and immediately professed the religion taught thereby, declaring that such words could proceed from an inspired person only.

The style of the Korân is generally beautiful and fluent, especially where it imitates the prophetic manner and scripture phrases. It is concise and often obscure, adorned with bold figures after the eastern taste, enlivened with florid and sententious expressions, and in many places, especially where the majesty and attributes of GOD are described, sublime and magnificent; of which the reader cannot but observe several instances, though he must not imagine the translation comes up to the original, notwithstanding my endeavours to do it justice.

Though it be written in prose, yet the sentences generally conclude in a long continued rhyme, for the sake of which the sense is often interrupted, and unnecessary repetitions too frequently made, which appear still more ridiculous in a translation, where the ornament, such as it is, for whose sake they were made, cannot be perceived. However, the Arabians are so mightily delighted with this jingling, that they employ it in their most elaborate compositions, which they also embellish with frequent passages of, and allusions to, the Korân, so that it is next to impossible to understand them without being well versed in this book.

It is probable the harmony of expression which the Arabians find in the Korân might contribute not a little to make them relish the doctrine therein taught, and give an efficacy to arguments which, had they been nakedly proposed without this rhetorical dress, might not have so easily prevailed. Very extraordinary effects are related of the power of words well chosen and artfully placed, which are no less powerful either to ravish or amaze than music itself; wherefore as much has been ascribed by the best orators to this part of rhetoric as to any other. He must have a very bad ear who is not uncommonly moved with the very cadence of a well-turned sentence; and Mohammed seems not to have been ignorant of the enthusiastic operation of rhetoric on the minds of men; for which reason he has not only employed his utmost skill in these his pretended revelations, to preserve the dignity and sublimity of style, which might seem not unworthy of the majesty of that Being, whom he gave out to be the author of them; and to imitate the prophetic manner of the Old Testament; but he has not neglected even the other arts of oratory; wherein he succeeded so well, and so strangely captivated the minds of his audience, that several of his opponents thought it the effect of witchcraft and enchantment, as he sometimes complains."

We can see that eventhough he claims Quran to be written by Mohammed because of his prejudice he cannot but admire it for its beauty.
