I don't know if these are factors or not but i'll just list them off. My brother is now finishing up his year of service in South Korea. When he leaves there he goes to Fort Hood, TX but he only has about 9 to 10 months left on his contract. He is almost 24 years old.thanks for your time.

There's always a 50/50 chance that he can go. And it doesn't matter how much time he has left on his contract. If a unit is designated to go, it is usually put on a 'stop loss' status, which means no one can leave the unit, except for schooling, etc. If he's due to get out, they'll keep him in until the unit returns.

My hubby was in South Korea for 1 year then he came back (we got married) and he redeployed 6 months to the day to Iraq. The chances of redeployment are really good right now sorry to say. If they still need him they will stop loss him and he will go over his contract then come home and get out. I hope for the best for him and thank him for me.

S. Korea is not a combat theatre at this time. They're certain to be on high security with everything that's going on there right now, but in the grand scheme of things, they're not combat there. It is doubtful that his time there would prevent him from being sent to Iraq IF his new unit in Ft. Hood has orders to deploy. IF his new unit gets orders and stop-loss comes down, it is very likely your brother will go with them. His age has nothing to do with it.

He signed the papers. He'll do his job. YOUR job is to support him, regardless of where he is. I'm not being heartless, my husband is on his second deployment.

Even when there isn't a war going on, if you are stationed at Ft Hood, Tx, you are going somewhere. Sorry to say chances are slim that he won't find himself in Iraq even for a little bit.

it depends on when his unit is going to iraq next. we have a stop movement in place and when the stop loss goes into effect, it could keep a few soldier from ets'ing, pcs'ing or retiring. it effects certain units and soldiers with critical mos's. the stop loss can affect 90 days before a deployment and keep the soldiers 90 days after. if he knows what unit he will be in, he can find out when they were deployed. my husband may have to stay in for the next deployment. he is ets'ing in april and they are scheduled to deployment sometime after. so basically its a very high chance.

there are never any gurantees but there is a good chance he will not have to go to iraq. after coming back the military will usually try to keep a soldier stateside for at least 6 months, before deploying them again. good luck!

doesn't matter how long he has on his contract. if he gets sent to a unit that is about to go over to the Litter box, he will go. and he will be stop lossed(meaning he will not get out until he has completed the deployment at the very least.)

I would say he probably will but who knows. I have been watching all the news and what bothers me is that the soldiers who are supposed to be here defending us like the national guard and such are the one they are sending to Iraq and this leads me to believe that our (so called ) elected officials have something not to pleasant in mind for us here at home. I hope every branch of the military is thinking about this homeland security stuff and is ready to defend our constitution when ever it comes up. I still can not see our soldiers shooting at their own families. So Americans beware of an army of non American soldiers working for homeland security. that would be way out of line but homeland security is not our friend and you all know it.

1/1 chance of being sent. When you join the Army, you usually have to go fight the war, but that is just from experience.
