Our cat was peeing on the carpet until we got her fixed.
As for getting the smell out, we used a combination of baking soda and vinegar. Work it into a paste and then rub it into the stained spot on upholstery or carpet. You may want to do a test spot first, just in case, so you don't stain the material. We used a scrub brush to work it in and then wiped and vaccuum the residue left as it dried, no more cat piss smell!

Hi...I Have 3 cats...One of my cats, a male, did this...I found out he had a urinary track infection....Is your cat peeing constantly? as in more than a couple times a day? And the pee spots, are the small amounts or large amounts? Lots of small amounts could mean an infection, as it makes the feel as if they constantly have to go. Also, look for pink or red in the urine, that is definately an infection, take to the vet for medicine, it will not clear on it's own. My vet said the infection causes pain, so they may think it's the litter box causing the pain and will try to go in other spots in the house to try find a spot where it doesn't hurt.
Also, another common problem is the litter box. If the litter box is too smelly, they may go outside of the box, but usually near it, but not in it, but not always...also, where is the litter box, have you moved it recently? Your cat may not like where it is, such as a high traffic area. Do you have other animals? Sometimes, for example if you have a dog, they may bother the cat while it's trying to go in the litter box, so it goes somewhere else where it feels safer.
Another reason, is if your cat is not fixed, then if it senses another cat around your home, it will pee in the corners of the home to show territory boundries to the cat it senses outside.
Your best bet is to call a vet, they can probably help you over the phone, and determine if it is an infection or just unhappy with something in your home.
Then once you solve the problem, you have to clean everything it peed on, or it will go in the same spots. Throw it away if you can, and go to the pet store, they have products that will work. Do not buy the cheap stuff, I have tried the cheaper stuff, it does not work. The good stuff has natuaral enzymes to nuetralize the urine...I can't remeber the name of it. If you have large space to cover, buy the jug and a spray bottle and keep applying until the smell is gone.
Good Luck to you and your cat!

To make the smell go away try Woolite Pet Stain and Odor Remover. Not only does it clean and deodorize but it has a deterant in it, too. Also, use Bissell's Pet Odor Remover carpet shampoo when you do your general cleaning of your carpets. I've done this for YEARS with GREAT results when my indoor pets have had accidents.
To make the cat stop using the carpet and start using it's box keep the box CLEAN! I use a covered box with Tidy-Cat Scoop-able Litter with a bit of Arm and Hammer Cat Box Deodorizer mixed thoroughly through the litter.
After the suggested vet check and neutering, watch the cat like a hawk and take it to its box if you suspect it's looking for a place to 'mark'. Be very sure to CONSISTANTLY do this until the cat GETS the clue! There's nothing like good follow-up TRAINING!!! Just remember that the older the cat the longer the training period will take and that "patience is a virtue".

First, a vet is meant to establish that the cat does no longer have a urinary tract an infection. despite the fact that if that's utilising the field all top many of the time, it possibly would not. next, the cat can nevertheless smell the urine. in case you reside in an condominium, according to hazard a prior tenant had a puppy who went there, and the heady scent lingered adequate for the cat to be conscious. Get a black gentle and a cat urine cleansing product like Nature's Miracle, or something else with enzymes. At night, shine the black gentle on the spot, shake up the cleansing product, pour on quite some product to soak by way of to the pad. some products say to blot, some do no longer. save the cat away jointly because it dries (it's going to be over 24 hrs.). placed something over the spot that's grotesque for the cat to stroll on, like foil or a carpet protector with the spikes pointed up. placed greater effective clutter packing packing containers on your place so as that the cat is often close to to a field (the cat is old, for one, and there are 3 cats so there ought to be 3 - 4 packing packing containers for the cats). in case you prefer, you ought to placed a sparkling carpet protector (spikes down) over the finished walkway. If the cat nevertheless went there, a minimum of it could be common to sparkling up. If he pees on somebody's stuff, he may be attempting to make it smell like him. merely save that stuff far flung from the cat. i do no longer know a thank you to provide up that subject any other way.

I have a cat who use to pee on the carpet. This is going to sound crazy, but trust me it works. If you have more than one cat, you need to have more than one litter box. Cats do not like to share bathroom spots. Cats like to go to the bathroom where it is clean, so clean the litter box out every day or even twice a day. Cats like to go to the bathroom in multiple spots. In the wild they NEVER soil the same area they go from spot to spot. You need to place multiple litter boxes through out the house. One in each room the cat goes in. After a day or two take notice to which ones have been used and which ones haven't. Remove the ones that haven't, keep the ones that have and clean them out every day. Another thing that helps is getting one of the big under the bed storage containers. If you don't want to clean the litter out every day invest in one of those self cleaning litter boxes. The waste box needs to be cleaned out every other day.
If none of the above helps take your cat to the vet to see if it has a UTI or something that might be worse.
For the cat urine odor any type of enzyme based cleaner should work. Sadly not all products do what they say they will and you might have to replace the carpet. If you end up replacing the carpet clean the ENTIRE floor really well with vinegar and let it completely dry before installing new carpet.

did you change the litter or the litter box? first you need to find out why the cat is peeing on the carpet...is this something new that he or she never used to do? this could be a health related problem, but try cleaning the area with vinegar this will neutralize the urine smell and then after the area dries try using some Resolve carpet spray this stuff works awesome...

Is it a male? a number of things can be going on, most important get to a vet, there could be an infection that you need to be aware of and he has NO control he has to go! He could be bored and acting out, get him some toys. He could need a different cat litter. He could be marking his territory, is there a new member of the family.
As far as the carpet - FORGET it NOTHING will take out the smell, it might mask it for awhile but the cat will still smell it and continue to go there!

Your not going to get the smell out of your carpet even if you try those sprays and all. because it sinks down through the padding and into the plywood or hardwood. and it stays there.. you will need to get bran new carpet. also if your cat is going to the bathroom on the carpet it might be you need to change the brand of the littler you use, or the litter box isn't clean like he wants it. clean the little box everyday. and trust me it will help

This is a bit tough to do, but it works pretty well.
The key is to acclimate yourself to it. Whenever you cat pees on the carpet, you need to quickly lick it pretty clean. What this does is to allow your senses to mingle of that of your cat and allow you to make pees that smell very similar to the cat's. Over time, you won't even complain about the cat's pee at all.
But, you have to do this carefully, make sure you separate the stages of cat's pee and poos. Acclimate yourself to the pee first before proceeding to the licking up the poo stage. Otherwise it gets pretty disgusting. Good luck.
