I drop my son off at preschool btwn 8-9am depending on the day and pick him up btwn 5-6pm it is a long day but his learning activities stop at 3pmand he just plays with the kids for a couple more hours.
my daughter is in Elementary and she goes in at 8am and I pick her up at 6 from Extended Day.
I know it is along time but if they didn't enjoy it I wouldn't leave them there all day.

Let's see, I'm a single mom and I work from 8 to 4 pm, plus an hour at the gym (when I'm that motivated!). So my daughter is at daycare/school/daycare combo from 7:20am until around 5:30, 5:45 pm when I go to the gym, or 4:30, 4:45 pm when I just go right home. Not too terrible!

I have a day care in my home and my hours are 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. 95% of the time ALL the families I work with use pretty much the full 10 hours a day. That's 50 hours a week. I think it's a little sad, but that's the way it is. I opened my day care to help out other working families and to be a safe place for the kids and I enjoy it and am glad to do it, but it does make me sad when the kids spend that much time at my house instead of with their own parents. Yes, I know they have the evenings and weekends with their parents but a large portion of that time is spent sleeping so it doesn't really even out, just in case anyone were to argue with me on that point. For me, when I used day care for my daughter, I was fortunate enough to only work part time and only needed about 25 hours a week, half a day M-F.

My 2 almost 3 year old child is in daycare for about 12 and a half hours a day and soon my newborn will be to. The place I work at currently requires all full time nurses to work 12 hour shifts. She loves it though, even on my days off work she askes if shes allowed to go by and see her friends. I personally think the daycare has been really good for her she knows all of her abc's, counts, knows her colors, shapes and can spell and read some little words now. So it is what works best for me and my daughters.

Im a stay at home mom, because day care is just too expensive and Id rather be with my children anyways. I have 3 boys. I cant imagine leaving my poor kids in day care all day long like that. But I guess if she has to work and make money, then that is her only choice.

My oldest is in elementary school, so she goes for 6 hours. During that time, I take my youngest to preschool for those 6 hours, and I work at the same preschool for the 6 hours. That way, I am still contributing financially to the family, and I am off work in time to pick up my oldest from school. I like being close to my youngest- having her at the same childcare center I work at, and I am home each afternoon with both of my children. This arrangement works good for all of us. My youngest loves going to preschool and being with her friends and teachers, and it is giving her a great foundation for school later on. I know many parents have to work to bring in the all-mighty dollar for their families, and we have children at our center who are there from the time it opens to the time it closes (7am-6pm). We have even gotten a grant to start staying open until 8pm on weekdays and being open on Saturdays... and I know the parents will use it. That's too long of a day for my own children, in my opinion.
