Former Border Patrol agents get prison in shooting
By ALICIA A. CALDWELL
Associated Press
EL PASO — A judge sentenced two former U.S. Border Patrol agents today to more than a decade in federal prison for shooting and wounding a Mexican drug smuggler and trying to cover it up.
Ignacio Ramos was sentenced to 11 years and one day, and Jose Alonso Compean was sentenced to 12 years. Both were fired after their convictions on several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, obstruction of justice and a civil rights violation.
The men, neither of whom spoke in court, will be allowed to turn themselves on Jan. 17. Both have proclaimed their innocence in the Feb. 17, 2005, shooting in the buttocks of admitted drug smuggler Osvlado Aldrete Davila.

Too bad they didn't kill the drug smuggling S O B.
I think the people who framed that law should be in jail instead, with the people who insisted on prosecuting these brave men for trying to stop drugs from killing another of our kids.

I think drug smuggling sucks and drug smugglers should have their balls cut off. But on the other hand if there wasn't such a huge demand by Americans for drugs there wouldn't be drug smugglers. There has been drug smugglers since the 1920's feeding Americans need for drugs. First it was the Italians (heard of the mafia?). Then it was the Colombians and Jamaicans during the 1980's, now unfortunately it seems to be Mexicans. But as long as Americans need their fix, there will always be drug smugglers, if not Mexican, then chinese, canadian, colombian or whatever.

What are the circumstances of the shooting, exactly? I think the last part of the first sentence says a lot, they tried to cover it up...
Honesty's what's needed on the border issue in order to successfully resolve it. I'm pretty sure there's laws and rules too that apply to how that job is done, if they were in violation of them, well, then the charges just might be spot-on. I don't know all the circumstances, I can assume the case was tried fairly...?

I think that that was bull to believe the illegal alien drug smuggler over the boarder patrol.
What comes to mind when I think of this is;
1. Never point a gun at someone you are not going to kill.
2. Dead men don't talk.
3. Put a weapon in his hands and wipe the prints.

There are laws that govern police conduct. I don't know all of the details of the shooting but I do know that if they violated the law they shouldn't get a pass just because the person shot was a drug dealer.

I don't agree with it, I think it is completely wrong and stupid of this country. Drugs are one of the major problems with our youth and all the government is doing is sitting around with a thumb up their a$$ and such.

If you read the names, all of them are Latinos.
But, referring to your question, drug smuggling is very bad, but is protected by Yankee mafia.
