Get an enzyme eater. That will kill all the germs and bacteria. A solution called natures miracle, will definately get the stains out. You have to spray it on, and then leave it for a little bit, then carpet clean. The machines at the store are probably not best. You should get it professionally done.

Pour some baking soda on the stain and let it sit for a few hours or as long as possible. Vacuum the baking soda. Repeat if necessary. This works best on new stains. Good luck!

Resolve makes a pet odor and stain removal, but if the stain has been there too long, the urine will crystalize, making it almost inmpossible to remove. In that case, you will need an enzyme to remove it. Try this stuff. I work in a research laboratory, and one thing we constantly have to work with is urine removal from the rats and mice in their cages. Here's the link to the stuff we use: http://www.petrx.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1485

The odor is in the padding under the carpet. The padding can be replaced fairly inexpensively although getting to it can be tricky. You might want to have a pro. company help you with it if you aren't sure how.

There is a special pet urine odor spray you can get at the store. It's call Urine Gone!, it comes in a black spray bottle (it says it works for 'people accidents' too).

Buy new carpet... I know some people who had cats invade their car overnight b/c they forgot to roll up the windows and it was impossible to get out. They had the car totally detailed, had the all the seats taken out and wash, etc... and it's still there. It was one mean cat...
