I know this is considered bad taste. I have even heard that the Chef goes to the worst of the worst steak when he recieves a "well done" order. This is a legimate choice-I thought "taste" was in the mouth. Why should I be embarassed to order my particular choice? Contrary to popular demand?

You should'nt be embarrassed. Everyone has their own taste as to how they like their steak cooked. As a chef myself, I can understand the reason why he/she would feel that way. Let me explain. As chefs, we've tasted steak rare, medium rare, medium, medium well and well done. Most of us feel that steak tastes the best medium rare. It's pink on the inside, but it's cooked all the way through. In this stage, the steak is tender and juicy. With a well done steak, some of the taste is still there, but it's a bit tough and you don't get the full experience or pleasure, if you will of the steak. But, on the other hand, I understand how you feel as well. I used to like steak well done. But then I ordered a steak medium rare one time and I haven't gone back. But everyone has their choice. And contrary to what you heard, the chef doesn't go to the worst of the worst steak when he has a well done order. At least the chef shouldn't. You can sue for that. The restaurant should have a particular cut of meat for all steak orders and use that not matter what doneness the customer orders their steak. So, don't feel bad if you like steak well done. Everyone is different. People like the same thing in different ways. That's what makes us human beings. The power of choice. So don't feel bad if you like your steak well done. So do hundreds of thousands of other people.

Well where do i start?! Firstly think of that poor sod of a cow that has been killed just to be cremated, what a waste of Daisy's life!! I tend to order steaks as steaks and not a slab of leather, we might as well just take a bite out of a cow who is innocently grazing a field. I will end this advice saying that you should become a vegetarian as you have no respect for meat.
Thanks for reading!

I have never seen a chef do that, but when you order a steak well you lose the flavor of the cut of meat as well as the process they used to cook it. For a true chef, it makes using your skill meaningless.

And while it is your choice,it is the same as drinking white zinfandel... generally, you just don't do it, lol. But I say do as you please, you are paying for it...

Generally, if you are paying for a high priced, Choice or Prime steak, you should really eat it cooked Medium or rarer. It has more fat within the muscle, and is generally alot more tender. Cook it past Medium Well, you may as well just start out with a lower grade of steak because it will end up dry and nasty.

I also prefer my steak well done! That is the only way I'll eat it.
You should not be embarassed to order what you want, no matter what it is.

I don't eat red meat anymore, but I'm in agreement with you on the "well done" part. I know what they say about the flavor, but I don't like the idea of eating anything still bleeding. Chicken and fish for me.

i don't know why it would b considered bad taste and i'm pretty sure the cook doesn't change the cut , u know a tbone from a strip, right. i like mine med rare and hubby likes his med. and no one has ever said anything to us. i think i would stop going to that restuarant. if the cook is insulted by anything u order.

Muffin, Muffin, Muffin....Where do I start?

I grew up hating steak because my Southern Mom cooked them well done. When I moved to Kansas, I told coworkers that I didn't like steak and they made me order one. I asked for well done, since that was what I was used to. They threatened my life.

Boss ordered a rib eye steak, medium rare for me. I could have kissed her, it was so DARNED good!

When you cook a steak well done, you ruin all of the flavor since you cook the fat out of it. The result tastes like leather. That's like going to a sushi restaurant and asking them to fry the fish.

Granted, it's a personal choice. But please don't go to a good restaurant and order steak like this.
