Hi, I'm an Indian and today is Diwali--the Indian equilavent to Christmas or New Year's. Today, we made a lot of sweets, a lot of food in general, and I noticed that in order to make them, you have to fry them. I was wondering if anyone knows how to make these same foods (such as puris or namkeen matra) without frying them? Is that possible? I mean, in India, that's just the lifestyle and that's how everyone eats; not very many people care that it's fried and therefore not too healthy. And yet, most people are seriously thin! Can anyone explain this?

frying isn't fattening if you use Olive Oil... it's fattening when Lard or animal fat is used

I;m not sure what food you are talking about. But I cook a lot of food in the oven, that used to be fried. I now take a piece of paper towel and put olive oil on it and coat a large cookie try or what ever dish you are using. and I place my Meatballs on there and cook, they come out better than all the oil from frying. Try it with your food.
